Additional Mathematics FSMQ |
||
InformationThis Advanced Free Standing Mathematics Qualification was approved by QCA in September, 2002. The unit replaces the former MEI Additional Mathematics course. It is intended for the same clientele: those who have taken GCSE early, either in Year 10 or in January of Year 11, but do not immediately want to start on AS/A Level units. The content consists of a number of strands of pure mathematics with associated applications. The applications have been chosen to provide a taste of each of the three major strands of applied mathematics that students may meet at AS level and beyond: Mechanics, Statistics and Decision & Discrete Mathematics. The full specification is published on the OCR website: www.ocr.org.uk The examination consists of a single 2 hour paper with no choice of questions. QCA have recently confirmed the performance table points that can be achieved using FSMQs. For more information please see: http://www.fsmq.org/news/performance-table-points-for-fsmqs,920,NS.html TrainingPlease contact Tom Button for information about CPD in Additional Mathematics.

ResourcesTextbookAn accompanying textbook has been written and is available from the MEI Office. Online resourcesOnline resources are available. These resources cover the full specification featuring notes and examples, interactive materials and on-line assessments. They can be used to support the study of Additional Maths or as extension material for GCSE Mathematics. The charge for subscription is £50, which includes a teacher username and 35 student usernames. This can be paid for with e-Learning Credits. Please see www.addmaths.mei.org.uk for more details. Past Examination PapersThe past papers for June 2003, 2004 and 2005 are available on this site (www.mei.org.uk/meiresources/ampapers.php). Packs of past papers of the old MEI Additional Mathematics (8647) and two MEI-produced practice papers, with material drawn from past papers of the specifications it has replaced, are available for the MEI office. Other resourcesA specification summary has also been written. This sets out key points of the specification content (in rather more detail than the "key points" at the end of each chapter of the book), reference to the text, examples and suggested questions from the exercises of the book to try. These are primarily summary sheets for revision purposes. They are available in hard copy as photocopyable masters (for use within the purchasing centre only); they are also available on disc - they have been written in Publisher2003. They are available from the MEI Office. |
