Supporting Mathematics at University
Under this initiative MEI engages in a number of strands of work:
School-college/university interface
MEI specialises in 14-19 mathematics education and is therefore in an excellent position to offer advice on mathematics at the school-college/ university interface.

Online materials to support universities
MEI has extensive experience in producing effective online learning and teaching resources to support AS/A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics, and is keen to use this experience to develop resources to support universities. Examples of current collaborations can be seen below.
- Engineering – University of the West of England
- Multi-Discipline – Warwick University
- Engineering – Kingston University
There are a number of other universites that subscibe to MEI's Integral Online Resources site. This includes for First year STEM courses, PGCE students, Mathematics Enhancement Courses, outreach work and other postgraduate and undergraduate courses.
There is considerable scope for MEI to work with universities to help support the learning and teaching of their students, for both Mathematics courses and for mathematics service courses in mathematics-related degrees.
Advice for Universities
MEI was commissioned to write:
Understanding the UK
Mathematics Curriculum Pre-Higher Education - A guide for Academic Members of Staff.
We also give presentations to university departments on matters such as curriculum development.
GCE Mathematics Aggregation Rules - Guidance for Higher Education Institutions is a very useful document to be aware of and understand.
For example it explains that when grading Mathematics and Further Mathematics, the highest possible grade in Mathematics is awarded first so if AC and BB are both possible pairs of grades, AC will be given in preference to BB.
