A-level Mathematics CPD

Enabling teachers to teach A level Mathematics with confidence.

MEI is offering courses designed for teachers who want to widen their expertise in an area of A level Mathematics. These include:

  • An introduction to Decision Mathematics 1
  • An introduction to Mechanics 1
  • An introduction to Statistics 1

As far as possible, all specifications will be covered: for example, the ‘Introduction to S1’ days will cover all the topics that appear in any of the various S1 modules: OCR, AQA and Edexcel.

Course costs and booking

The cost of a one-day course is £180. This includes the one-day course, a textbook, one year's access to web resources and a series of four optional on-line lessons. To apply for a place please either complete the following document electronically and e-mail it to us as an attachment, or print the form and post/fax it.:

Mechanics: Sharon Tripconey
Sharon Tripconey is an Area Coordinator for the Further Mathematics Support Programme and Assistant Leader for FMSP professional development. She is based at the Centre for Mathematical Sciences, Cambridge University. After graduating in mathematics at Exeter University, she qualified as a teacher and started her career teaching maths in secondary comprehensive schools. Her career has included periods as a Head of Mathematics and as an Advisory Consultant. Sharon has a particular interest in the teaching and learning of Mechanics at A level. She has written and delivered online course materials to support teachers’ professional development in Mechanics.
Statistics: Stella Dudzic
Stella Dudzic is MEI’s programme leader for curriculum and the author of the MEI S1 and S2 revision guides. Prior to working for MEI, she worked as a teacher of mathematics in secondary schools for 22 years, including 9 years as head of department.
Decision: Sue de Pomerai
Sue de Pomerai works for MEI as CPD Leader on the Further Mathematics Support Programme where she is responsible, amongst other things, for the “Teaching Further Mathematics” project. She has published several texts on Decision Mathematics and has been involved with PD for teachers for more years than she admits to. Prior to her current post she was Head of Mathematics and, when the work runs out, her ambition is to run away to sea.
