A-level Mathematics and FSMQ Additional Mathematics CPD

Enabling teachers to teach A level Mathematics and FSMQ Additional Mathematics with confidence.

cpd

MEI is offering pairs of CPD days designed for teachers who want to widen their expertise in an area of post-GCSE Mathematics. These include:

  • An introduction to Decision Mathematics 1
  • An introduction to Mechanics 1
  • An introduction to Statistics 1
  • An introduction to AS Further Pure Mathematics 1
  • An introduction to OCR Additional Mathematics

Course Structure

On Day 1 participants will be introduced, through a series of model lessons, practical activities and discussion, to the big ideas in their module. They will receive a copy of the relevant MEI textbook and one year’s access to MEI on-line teaching and learning resources for the module.

Over the following two months, participants will be encouraged to use the web resources, written specifically for course participants, and the e-mail support offered to consolidate the work from Day 1 and prepare for Day 2.

On Day 2, the more demanding topics will be covered with an emphasis on teaching approaches, student misconceptions and extension work

As far as possible, all specifications will be covered: for example, the ‘Introduction to S1’ days will cover all the topics that appear in any of the various S1 modules: OCR, AQA and Edexcel.

Course costs

The cost for the two-day course, including one year’s access to web resources and e-mail support, is £250.

Dates and venues

The venues and dates for 2007-08 are listed below . If your school, college or FM Network centre would like to host an additional pair of days please get in touch with Bernard Murphy: bernard.murphy@mei.org.uk
