News: Online materials to support undergraduate courses

MEI has extensive experience in producing effective online learning and teaching resources to support AS/A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics, and is keen to use this experience to develop resources to support undergraduate courses at university.

Working with the University of the West of England and funded by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, MEI has conducted a successful pilot project to develop online resources to support UWE’s ‘Engineering Mathematics 1’ course. This course is taken by all first year Engineering Undergraduates at UWE. The online resources are tailored directly to the course.

A paper on this pilot project, by Dr Kevin Golden (UWE), and Charlie Stripp (MEI), was presented by Dr Kevin Golden at the IMA conference on the Mathematical Education of Engineers, held at Loughborough University on 11/12 April 2006.

There is considerable scope for MEI to work with universities to help support the learning and teaching of undergraduates, for both first year Mathematics courses and for mathematics service courses in mathematics-related degrees. For enquiries, please contact Charlie Stripp: charlie.stripp@mei.org.uk.
