News: Ideas for FP3 Revision Papers

The following ideas have been put together in response to requests for material to use as revision for the FP3 examination. Any teacher who has done something similar for this module (and any other module for which there are no practice paper published) is invited to submit suggestions to the Professional Support Officer in order to help other Centres preparing candidates for the exams in a few weeks.

FP3 assessment is by option and each option question carries 24 marks. There are therefore no past papers that match this exactly.

The options are as follows. Suggested questions are also given that could make up a paper with the restriction given above.

Vectors
This option is taken from P4 (v1 - v5) and P6 (v6 - v12). Therefore there are no questions that cover the whole topic.

Example: P6, Summer 2001, question 3
For the first statements P4, Summer 2001 question 4(a).
Possibly 4(a)(i) only gives 5 marks, added to the example above gives 25 marks.

Multivariable Calculus
This option comes in its entirety from P6 c1-c8

Example: P6, Summer 2001 question 2

Differentiable Geometry
This option comes in its entirety from P6 g1-g7 (One statement has been expanded to 2).

Example: P6, Summer 2001 question 4

Groups
A1-8 come in their entirety from P6, which also has an extended section here. Care therefore needs to be taken that past questions are covered by the new syllabus. (For instance P6, Summer 2001, question 5 is not suitable.)

Example: P6, Summer 2002, question 3

Markov Chains

This topic is extended from the original topic in Statistics 6. Therefore no past papers will cover the last few competence statements and candidates are best working with the questions in the text book. Note also that Statisticians use a different notation.

Example: S6, Summer 2002, question 3 is suitable for candidates but teachers will have to rewrite the mark scheme.

Follow the notation in the new FP3 book closely!!
